Mercedes Benz is working on a significant update for the G-Class SUV, following its recent update in India. This refresh will bring improved technology, visual changes, and new powertrain options.
Spy shots from Motor.es reveal camouflaged test mules of the G-Class facelift. While the body won’t change much, expect a tweaked front grille, bumper, and skid plate. The headlamp design will also see minor adjustments. Alloy wheels will be updated, with sportier versions featuring a gloss-black finish. The rear bumper and tail-lamps will likely see slight changes.
Inside, the facelifted G-Class will have minor cosmetic changes to the dashboard. More significant updates are expected for the steering wheel, digital instrument cluster, and MBUX infotainment system. Moreover, the current rotary dial-operated infotainment system will be replaced by a new touchscreen interface. Futhermore, The new G-Class will likely feature advanced driver assistance systems seen in newer Mercedes-Benz models.
Reports suggest the updated G-Class might ditch diesel and go for petrol engines only.However, the V8-powered G 500 will likely be replaced by a twin-turbo V6 with mild-hybrid technology. Additionally, an all-electric G-Class (likely called the Mercedes EQG) could debut alongside the facelifted model.
The G-Class facelift is expected to be revealed later this year, with sales starting next year. However, due to the recent update in India, the launch of the facelifted model might take some time. The Indian G-Class is currently available in AMG-line and Adventure Edition variants.
